Nordkette is the jewel of the Alps. This spectacular mountain range wakes up north on the town of Innsbruck and is a popular destination for excursions.
The journey begins at 560 meters above sea level, not far from the historic center, with its buildings and its famous Goldenes Dachl (golden roof).
The Nordkette plants bring visitors from the city center to the high mountains. From the congress station, close to the Imperial Palace, the Hungerburgbahn funicular, designed by the famous architect Zaha Hadid, reaches the Seegrube at 2000 meters of altitude in just 20 minutes. From the old town, in 8 minutes you arrive at the station of Hungerburg where you can get off at the intermediate station of the Alpenzoo, the Alps Zoo, with over 150 species of animals.
Through the square dedicated to the Austrian Hermann-Buhl-Platz mountain climber you can reach the plants that lead to Seegrube.
The scenery is spectacular: the view on the capital of the Alps and the Karwendel nature park gives you breathtaking emotions.
From here, you can continue for another 300 meters in altitude and reach the highest point, the Hafelekar. But the upstream stations of the Nordkettenbahnen facilities are also ideal starting points for excursions to several mountain pastures and shelters. On the Nordkette, in fact, the gastronomic horizon surpasses every apex giving new sensations to the palate but also to the sight, especially in the evening, with a candlelight dinner with a view on the lights of the city. And I could summarize it all in one word: impassable.
